The Watchtower

This is the Ministry’s Prayer & Intercession Team!

Dedicated to seeking God continually and standing in the gap for the needs of our ministry and community through faithful prayer and intercession.

A watchtower serves as a strategic post where soldiers keep watch for any unusual activities or enemy advancements. When a soldier detects a threat, they alert the team to prepare for battle. Additionally, a watchtower acts as a guiding beacon for vessels at sea, much like an airport control tower for aircraft. With its elevated position, a watchtower provides a high vantage point, ensuring enhanced protection and surveillance. It is typically designed with 360-degree visibility, allowing those on watch to detect any movement or threats across the entire perimeter. A watchtower is also a place of safety

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR US TO BE STATIONED AT THE WATCHTOWER?

Being stationed at a watchtower means being assigned a position of vigilance, responsibility, and readiness. It requires maintaining a constant watch over a designated area, ensuring that any potential threats, unusual activities, or significant movements are detected and responded to appropriately. In a military context, it means being on guard to spot enemy advances or suspicious activity, then alerting the team for defense or counteraction. In our case, being stationed at the watchtower as the Wonder Workers Ministry’s intercession team represents a role of spiritual vigilance – those who are spiritually alert, discerning, and standing in prayer for others. It signifies a heightened sense of awareness, accountability, and preparedness.

WHAT DOES THE WORD OF GOD SAY REGARDING “KEEPING WATCH?

1. WATCHMEN ON THE WALLS

Isaiah 62:6-7 (NIV)

“I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.”

Isaiah 21:8 (NIV)

And the lookout shouted, “Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every night I stay at my post.”

These verses describe intercessors as watchmen who pray continually for God’s purposes to be fulfilled. Just as a watchtower gives a high vantage point for protection, we as intercessors have a spiritual responsibility to stand guard and pray for the ministry, community, and world.

2. JESUS’ COMMAND TO WATCH AND PRAY

Matthew 26:41 (NIV)

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Jesus instructed His disciples to be spiritually alert through prayer. As an intercession team, we function like a watchtower by maintaining spiritual vigilance, preventing spiritual attacks, and covering the ministry in prayer.

1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

1 Thessalonians 5:6 (NIV)

“So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.”

Just as a physical watchtower helps detect threats from a distance, intercessors discern spiritual attacks in advance and pray against them.

3. STANDING IN THE GAP

Ezekiel 22:30 (NIV)

“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.”

Intercessors act as those standing in the gap, preventing destruction by lifting up prayers for protection, repentance, and divine intervention.

4. GOD’S MOUTHPIECE

Habakkuk 2:1 (NIV)

“I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.”

Habakkuk 2:1 (AMPC)

“OH, I know, I have been rash to talk out plainly this way to God! I will [in my thinking] stand upon my post of observation and station myself on the tower or fortress, and will watch to see what He will say within me and what answer I will make [as His mouthpiece] to the perplexities of my complaint against Him.”

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF US?

Spiritual Alertness

We must be prayerfully aware of God’s movements, enemy schemes, and the needs of individuals, the ministry, and nations. Just as a watchtower provides a high vantage point, we must maintain a posture of spiritual discernment, perceiving beyond the immediate circumstances.

Standing in the Gap

Like a soldier who sounds the alarm at the sight of danger, we are responsible for bringing urgent matters before God in prayer, pleading for mercy, protection, and divine intervention on behalf of the Ministry/others (Ezekiel 22:30).

Consistent Watchfulness

We are called to persevere in prayer, maintaining a continuous posture of intercession (1 Thessalonians 5:17). This will involve praying for specific individuals, the Wonder Workers Ministry, leaders, nations, or critical global issues.

Declaring God’s Word

Just as a soldier warns of danger, intercessors speak forth God’s promises and declare His will over situations, countering spiritual attacks with the authority of Scripture.

Obedience and Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit often reveals burdens for intercession. As intercessors, we must be sensitive to His leading, willing to pray even at inconvenient times, much like a soldier who must remain alert at all hours.

Protection and Warfare

We engage in spiritual warfare, covering individuals, families, the ministry, and regions in prayer, ensuring that the enemy’s plans are thwarted (Ephesians 6:12-18).

Ultimately, as intercessors, we are like soldiers who must remain steadfast, faithful, and unwavering in their duty, ensuring that nothing goes undetected in the spiritual realm and that God’s purposes prevail.

IN CONCLUSION:

  1. Stand Firm Unshaken in faith
  2. Be Impermeable Resist enemy intrusion
  3. Remain Steadfast Rooted like stone

Watchtowers are built from strong, impermeable stone, designed to withstand the elements and
resist intrusion. Likewise, we should be4firmly rooted, unshaken, and steadfast. Impermeable to
the enemy, standing strong in faith and purpose.
Isaiah 50:7(NIV): Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set
my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.
